On January 17th, Gawharshad University celebrated the 9th round of graduation of it students. Dr. Mohammad Jawad Salehi, chancellor, in his opening speech welcomed the presence of the audience and congratulated the graduates and their families and emphasized on the role education plays in development of any country.
He added that peace and social welfare are the basic needs that can be fulfilled only when rationality predominates in a society. He further added that we, at Gawharshad, are very pleased that we are celebrating the 9th graduation round of our students and have been able to foster urban culture and provide a platform for empowering women, the growth of rationality, peace and human rights in our society.
Dr. Sima Samar, founder of Gawharshad and the chairperson of Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission, in her speech emphasized on observing law, respecting human rights and fostering peace in Afghanistan and said, ‘Endeavoring to eliminate violence and trying to build a sustainable peace is a responsibility of each and every individual and this may start from our families.’ She added that rule of law ensures the sustainability of peace and adhering to the constitution is an obligation and to implement it, we may need to make sacrifices.
With regard to the ongoing peace process, Dr. Samar stated, ‘we want a just and fair peace. A peace that results in institutionalization of citizen’s and human rights and not a peace at the cost of losing our human rights. We have made numerous sacrifices for peace and having it should not deprive us of our freedom.’ She also pointed out that women should be actively involved in the process and play a meaningful role in planning, negotiations, signing agreements and their implementation. She concluded that the ownership over peace should belong to the Afghanistan government.
Associat Professor Mohammad Amir Kamawal, the Head of Ministry of Higher Education Directorate for Private Universities and Institutes, posited that it is the responsibility of the Ministry of Higher Education to support the intellectual rights of teaching staff at private universities and institutes and the process of reviewing their professional position and title approval will commence next year.
Dr. Rangin Dadfar Spanta, former advisor of security council, Dr. Farooqi, chancellor of Kabul University, major general Shah Mir Amirpur, and Ms. Nilab Zafari were the other speech makers of the ceremony.
The music and songs by children of Samar Orphanage of Bamiyan and Hashemi group were very refreshing throughout the ceremony.
The graduation ceremony concluded with awarding certificates to the graduates, Hashemi group, Samar Orphanage children, Quran reciter and the announcers.
