Conducting a judicial clerkship preparation course is being organized by the Faculty of Law and Political Science at Gawharshad University. The aim of this course is to enhance practical knowledge and meet the current needs of our society. In this course, all the resources required for a complete judicial clerkship program will be taught by Dr. Hamed Mosbah, an experienced judge who has been studying and researching in the field of law for many years. The goal is to prepare students thoroughly for the judicial clerkship exam so that they can enter the job market and utilize their expertise for the advancement of society upon obtaining the certificate from this course.

About WSE Program

The Women’s Scholarship Endowment (WSE) Activity aims to assist Afghan women obtain a university education in a field of Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM), so that they may overcome barriers to employment, raising their incomes, and in developing leadership roles within their families, communities, and in both public and private sector organizations. 

WSE provides scholarships for tuition and student stipend. Students attending any private or public university in Afghanistan are eligible to apply.

Eligibility

In order to receive this scholarship, a candidate must meet the basic eligibility requirements outlined below. An applicant must:

  • Be female
  • Be an Afghan National
  • Have been accepted to a public or private university in Afghanistan or regional University to study a STEM or STEM related major
  • New students who have yet to receive an acceptance letter are eligible to apply. They must indicate in their application they are awaiting acceptance. If an applicant is selected for a scholarship, she must produce the acceptance letter prior to receiving the scholarship. If she is unable to show proof of acceptance prior to the start of the academic year, she will be in the waiting list for the next round of scholarships.
  • Not be on academic or disciplinary probation
  • Meet the below grade requirements
    • New Undergraduate Student: Have a minimum cumulative grade of 75% from her high school studies ((نمرات سه ساله.
    • Existing Undergraduate Student: Have a minimum cumulative grade of 80% on a percentage scale or 3.0 CGPA on a 4.0 scale from her undergraduate university studies. Engineering students with a cumulative grade of 75% on a percentage scale or 2.7 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) on a 4.0 scale are eligible.
    • New Graduate Student: Have a minimum cumulative grade of 80% on a percentage scale or 3.0 CGPA on a 4.0 scale from their undergraduate university studies.
    • Existing Graduate Student: Have a minimum cumulative grade of 80% on a percentage scale or 3.0 CGPA on a 4.0 scale from their graduate studies.

How to Apply

Interested individuals should follow the below steps to apply for the WSE Scholarship.

Download the application form from main page of following universities: (Kardan University, Gawharshad University, Bakhtar University, Ghalib University, Rana University, American University of Afghanistan, Moora Educational Complex, Jami University, Khatam Al-Nabieen University, Kateb University, and Afghanistan Center at Kabul University)
  3. You can alternatively get hard copy of the application forms from above universities, and Afghanistan Center at Kabul University
  4. Complete your application package. Due to the volume of applications expected, any application package missing required documentation or information may not be evaluated. So, please ensure your application package is complete when you submit it. As outlined on the application form, a completed application package will include:
  • Complete Application Form
  • Statement of Purpose and Objectives Letter
  • Two (2) Letters of recommendation
  • Photo ID – Passport or Tazkira
  • Acceptance letter to university/program
  • Official transcript from High School (three years), Undergraduate or Graduate program transcripts
  • English Proficiency Certificate if available (recommended for graduate students)

Evaluation Criteria

Applications will initially be reviewed for completeness. Incomplete applications will not be evaluated. Completed applications will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Academic performance
  • Statement of Purpose and Objective Letter
  • Letters of Recommendation
  • Involvement in extra-curricular (non-academic) activities
  • Preference will be shown to women studying a field in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) over those studying a STEM related topic.
  • Preference will be given to applicants from more rural areas.

Once applications have been evaluated, the top candidates will be invited to interview. Interviews will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Self-Presentation, confidence, professionalism
  • Enthusiasm, motivation and commitment to a career in STEM
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • English Proficiency (graduate students only)

The Linda Norgrove Foundation (LNF) offers its 2020 Scholarships for Afghan Young Women to study their higher education at Gawharshad University.

Organization Background:

The Linda Norgrove Foundation (LNF) is a grant-giving trust that funds education, health, and childcare for women and children affected by the war in Afghanistan.

The Trust was set up in memory of Scottish aid worker Linda Norgrove, who was devoted to ensuring that the people of Afghanistan would achieve prosperity and stability as their country was rebuilt. She was completely committed to her development work, and she loved Afghanistan and its people. Linda was kidnapped and subsequently died during a failed rescue attempt in Afghanistan in October 2010. Scholarship Background:

Scholarships provided for twelve eligible and hard-working female students who are in need of external financial support. LNF pays university tuition fees until the graduation of the student.

Requirements and Eligibility:

  1. The applicant should have their High school diploma while applying for the grant.
  2. The scholarship is applicable only for applicants who are applying at Gawharshad University in Kabul and majoring in one of the following fields:
  • Law
  • Economics
  • Engineering
  • Computer Science
  • Political Science
  1. The applicants’ school average grade should be above 80%.
  2. Applicants should download and submit the LNF Application form for the Gawharshad Scholarship along with two essays, both having a length not exceeding 1 page, in either Dari or English:
  • The first essay should be the detail of you being passionate about majoring in your chosen field and reasons for your inspiration to choose this field.
  • The second essay should include an explanation of your financial situation and a demonstration of why you need the scholarship to study at the university.
  • Those students who are already enrolled in the university should explain in their essay about their source of funding up until now.

How to Apply:

Applicants are required to submit the LNF Gawharshad Scholarship application, which includes all the details of the applicant and the essays mentioned above.  All applicants are required to submit their High School Transcript and Diploma.
